Chavez to leave private property alone

CARACAS, Venezuela, Jan. 29 (UPI) -- Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has promised that private property would not be seized during the next phase of his socialist revolution.
The leftist Chavez implored Venezuelans not to be "scared" by his plan to nationalize several sectors of the economy, El Universal reported Monday.
Earlier this month, Chavez announced that he intended to nationalize the country's telecommunications, electricity production and sectors of the petroleum industry.
Lawmakers said they would grant the Venezuelan leader wide-ranging executive powers to implement his nationalizing plan.
