Spending $1 Billion to Restore Fiscal Sanity
"Mr. Peterson, co-founder of the Blackstone Group and a secretary of commerce under President Richard M. Nixon, will spend $1 billion in an effort to get the public’s attention. The money, which comes from the windfall Mr. Peterson received when Blackstone went public last year, will finance a media blitz, starting with a documentary, “I.O.U.S.A.”
“You can buy a lot of airtime” with $1 billion, Mr. Peterson said. “People are going to hear from us.”

July 11 (Bloomberg) -- Blackstone Group LP co-founder Peter G. Peterson celebrated the launch of his $1 billion foundation last night by showing off his latest acquisition: a documentary that examines the perils of the U.S.'s debt.
The nonprofit will help promote the film's release and offer free DVDs of ``I.O.U.S.A.'' to the public after its theatrical run, said foundation spokeswoman Elizabeth Wilner.
